The Fiji National University (FNU) has been commended for their role in producing quality graduates who can be employed in a diverse range of industries. This was highlighted by Chief Guest and Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC), Director Dr Rohit Kishore, at during the University’s College of Humanities and Education (CHE) graduation ceremony this morning.
Dr Kishore challenged the graduates to be prepared for future challenges as they embarked on their new journeys.
“I want to admire your courage and thank you, as we all had very tough times in the last two years,” he said.
“Fiji National University’s (FNU), College of Humanities and Education (CHE) has been graduating teachers for long time and that was through the former Nasinu Teachers College as well as the Lautoka Teachers College. We also have had the Fiji College of Advanced Education (FCAE) and before that, the Fiji Australia Teacher Education Project (FATEP).”
“FNU has been producing teachers for a long time and the College has been engaging in community work and actively involved in the Climate Change fight. I commend FNU’s Climate-U project at Nadaro village in Tailevu, where staff have been engaged in community projects that include tree planting, water source enhancement via borehole and piping, alternative water sourcing and improvement work, drainage improvement, solar light installations, and water tanks installation. This is a part of an international collaboration among some six-seven universities headed by University College, London.”
“This highlights FNU’s commitment and partnership with its neighbouring communities in addressing real-time issues affecting our people.”
FNU Chancellor, Dr Adi Kesaia Seniloli, emphasised the importance of committing to your goals and achieving them with passion.
“I am delighted to see smiling and happy faces, which implies that you have successfully achieved your mission that began on your first day of studies at the Fiji National University,” she shared.
“To each and every one seated here today in your graduation gown, I offer my sincerest congratulations.”
FNU Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, said today marked the graduation of students in the teaching field, public relations, communications, hairdressing, film and television, and social policy, amongst others.
“We consider you, our students, to be of utmost importance as you are the person moulding our young ones into a better person of our nation, the teachers, and the policymakers to take Fiji forward,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.
“You have reached the top of one mountain – you also have begun today the climb to the next mountain.”
“As you continue to explore the many paths before you and strive for excellence in your careers, please remember that your FNU family is always here to welcome you back when you are ready to upgrade your qualifications.
Ronil Ronish Chand
Gold Medalist and Postgraduate Diploma in Education graduate, Ronil Ronish Chand said he is happy that his hard work was rewarded with a gold medal.
“I feel excited and proud to graduate. This is my 15th year of teaching and I believe education is the key for success,” the 33-year-old said.
“I’d like to encourage all students to work hard with full dedication and commitment, as this would result in success.”
A total of 1874 students will graduate during the University’s March graduation ceremonies. Since 2016, Fiji National University has graduated close to 20,000 students. For the past 7 years, 4173 of these graduates were from the College of Humanities and Education.
This second session today features graduates from the College of Engineering, Science, and Technology (CEST). Education Minister, Honourable Aseri Radrodro is the Chief Guest.
