FNU’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences’ to hold consultation sessions with prospective students next week

Press Release Posted On: March 26, 2022

The Fiji National University’s (FNU), College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences’ (CMNHS) welcomes the announcements made by the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Honourable Aiyaz-Sayed-Khaiyum in the 2021/2022 Revised National Budget regarding its medical, dental and nursing programmes.

The revised budget announced scholarship allocations for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery programmes and an increase in the student intake quota for the Bachelor of Nursing course.

In light of this, and following clarifications with the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), the College has had to make some urgent changes to various programme intake lists, and will undertake consultations and attend to all student queries and enrolment issues from 9am Monday, 28 March.

CMNHS Acting Dean Dr Donald Wilson is encouraging all interested and prospective students to visit the Hoodless House Conference Room for discussions with the academic staff from Monday next week.

For programmes offered by the School of Public Health or the School of Nursing, academic counselling will be offered at the respective schools in Tamavua.

Students can check our social media pages for updates and details regarding the consultations.

For this year’s intake, the government will provide 20 MBBS and 5 Bachelor of Dental Surgery awards to new students who have completed Year 13 with a mark of 340 in 2021 through the National Toppers Scheme. Those students who are registered on the TSLS Online Portal for 2022 intake can apply or change their programme to qualify.

In addition, the quota for the Bachelor of Nursing will be increased to 350. The initial quota was 100 for this programme, however, according to the Honourable Minister Sayed-Khaiyum, this may not be sufficient given the fact that many nurses are resigning – either leaving the profession or relocating. Hence to fill the gaps created by resignations and migration of nurses, the TELS quota for Bachelor of Nursing has increased.

These additional TSLS awards are allocated to FNU, the University of Fiji, and the TISI Sangam School of Nursing, as institutions offering these health programmes.

Students can contact the College’s Executive Officer on EOMed@fnu.ac.fj for queries and clarifications.
