SCOPE

This programme which is specifically designed to provide the students with the knowledge, skills and attributes required for Shipbuilding, boatbuilding works and construction.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to:

  • Understanding of Boatbuilding works
  • Understand the different types of boat construction.
  • Provide the students with knowledge of initial Boatbuilding works.
  • Construct a 4.5meter punt.
  • Describe the cares and uses of boatbuilding tools.
  • Describe excellent quality timber for boatbuilding.
  • Understand the types of fasteners in boatbuilding.
  • Understand the Shipbuilding construction.
  • Weld and fabricate steel structures.

PURPOSE
The initial step for those who wish to embark on a career as a Shipwright, Naval Architecture, Shipbuilders and a Boat builder.
COURSE DURATION
1.4.1 Stage 1 Duration 12 weeks
1.4.2 Stage 2 Duration 12 weeks

1.4.3 Stage 3 Duration 12 weeks

1.4.4 Stage 4 Duration 12 weeks

Attachments - 6 months

Total Duration = - 2 1/2 years

ENTRY STANDARDS / LEARNER STATUS

  • This course is open for those who comply with the minimum standards and requirements stipulated below.
  • The candidate shall not be less than 18 years of age and not more than 22 years of age at the time of closing applications. The HOD reserves the right to waiver the upper limit of the age requirement in a case of a candidate displaying exceptional capabilities.
  • A passes in FSLC with the subjects Mathematics, Physics & Woodwork/Technical drawing with at least 50% passing mark.Experience in Woodwork or Metalwork will be considered
  • The candidate should be successful at the aptitude test and subsequent interviews conducted by the College.
  • Candidates who do not meet the standards expected under would be considered for recruitment if they are sponsored by a company or institutions. (A letter of sponsorship will be required).

COURSE INTAKE LIMITATIONS
Number of Students not to exceed 30.
As per the student number adequate classrooms/ laboratories/ workshops/ other facilities to be provided.
