As Nasautoka District School celebrates its 100th anniversary, the celebrations are also a tribute to the dedicated educators who have shaped its legacy. Among them stands Samuela Delai Tubuna, a passionate Year 3 and 4 teacher whose journey through education spans over three decades and reflects unwavering commitment and love for teaching.
Samuela’s roots run deep in the Tailevu province. He attended Nasautoka District School from 1989 to 1994, before progressing to Wainibuka Secondary School (1995–1998) and subsequently completing his secondary education at Nasinu Secondary School in 1999. His thirst for knowledge propelled him further; in 2006, he enrolled at Lautoka Teachers College, graduating in 2007 with a Diploma in Primary Education.
“Teaching has always been my calling. I knew from a young age that I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives, and I am grateful to be able to do so every day,” Samuela shared.
His professional journey began immediately after graduation when he was posted to Lau, where he taught from 2008 to 2010. Since then, he has dedicated his career to nurturing young minds at Nasautoka District School, where he has been a vital part of the community for the past nine years. His commitment to education extends beyond the classroom; he is currently pursuing a degree in Primary Education from FNU, aiming to enhance his pedagogical skills further.
“I really enjoy studying at FNU. The programme’s flexibility allows me to balance my studies with my teaching responsibilities. The courses are well-designed; they are contextualised and conceptualised, which enriches my understanding and teaching practice. The lecturers understand where students are coming from, which makes all the difference.”
His dedication and passion have not gone unnoticed.
“Every day is an opportunity to inspire and be inspired,” he adds. “Seeing my students grow and succeed is the greatest reward.”
As the School celebrates a century of educational service, Tubuna exemplifies the spirit of lifelong learning and community dedication.
