Tehillati Shalom, a Certificate student in Film and Television at our College of Humanities, Education and Law (CHEL), has found her true passion in storytelling through the lens.
Her journey began while she was pursuing a Diploma in Marketing, where she realised that skills in videography and photography were a valuable asset in the marketing field.
“After graduating with my Diploma, I enrolled in the Film and TV programme. I was also inspired by a masterclass organised by Film Fiji to venture into filmmaking,” said the Vanua Levu native.
While studying Film and Television, Shalom was given the remarkable opportunity to be part of the crew behind the world-famous Survivor series. “I went through two interviews before being selected, and I honestly did not expect to make it. When I was chosen, I was thrilled and so was my family. That meant so much to me, especially because they had initially hoped I would pursue a degree in marketing.”
Through this experience, Shalom discovered her calling. “This course allows us to take charge of the narrative and tell our stories as young Fijians and as women.”
She emphasised that although the industry has traditionally been male-dominated, more women are breaking through, and she hopes that more young women and girls will be inspired to join the programme.
Reflecting on her time on the set of Survivor Season 50, Shalom described it as a transformative experience. “As an introvert, it helped me build confidence and learn from some of the best in the business. There were so many unforgettable moments on set.”
