Sokonaia Kina’s Journey in Law

Sokonaia Kina’s journey in law

Today marks the second day of the Fiji National University Open Day, an event that continues to inspire and showcase the resilience of students across the country. Among those sharing their story is Sokonaia Kina, a 3rd-year Law student from Naevuevu, Nadroga.

For Sokonaia, studying Law at FNU has been both a challenge and a blessing. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he stopped his studies and almost gave up entirely. But deep within, a voice reminded him why he started—to make a difference in the lives of others. That inner motivation pushed him to rise above his struggles and continue his journey in Law.

“Being in Law school isn’t easy,” Sokonaia admits. “There’s always peer pressure; there are always challenges. But it’s about your mindset and the people you choose to surround yourself with. If you keep the right company, you’ll stay focused and make the right choices.”

For him, studying Law goes beyond lectures and textbooks—it’s about discipline, hard work, and making wise decisions. “Every decision matter,” he says. “And how you deal with those decisions shapes your future. If you want to succeed, you must put in the effort.”

Now in his 3rd year, Sokonaia remains determined to complete his studies and hopes to one day use his legal knowledge to positively impact his community.

His journey, shared during Day 2 of the FNU Open Day, serves as an inspiration to many—showing that with the right mindset, setbacks can be turned into steppingstones.
