The Fiji National University (FNU) officially opened its 2025 Open Day today under the theme “Crafting Futures Together”, inviting students, parents, and the wider community to explore a wide range of study programmes and career opportunities.

Among the highlights of the event is the participation of current students like Elena Ravuka, a Film and Television major, who is enthusiastic about sharing her journey with prospective students.

“It’s a happy day for me since it’s been a while we’ve had everyone back on campus,” Elena said.

“After the film festival and other productions, it feels good to meet new students and show them what we do.”

Elena recently made headlines when her short film was selected for screening at the Suva International Short Film Festival. Her project, which tackles the pressing issue of teenage pregnancy, follows the story of a 19-year-old girl navigating complex life decisions.

Encouraging others to join the Film and Television programme, Elena highlighted the diverse opportunities the field offers.

“You don’t just take selfies,” she said.

“You learn how to use a camera, create productions, and share your skills and knowledge.”

She added that film is a powerful platform for raising awareness and addressing social issues.

“Film is a way to raise awareness and send strong messages about issues that matter,” she said.

Visitors to the Nasinu Campus are encouraged to stop by the Film and Television booth to learn more about the programme and how it empowers students to become storytellers and change-makers.

FNU’s Open Day at Nasinu Campus continues until Saturday, offering hands-on experiences, programme information, and guidance for those planning their future studies.
