Sohail Tasir Muhammed is on the verge of realising his lifelong dream.
Set to graduate from Fiji National University (FNU) this December with two qualifications — a Certificate in Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Electrical & Electronics (AEE) — Muhammed exemplifies resilience, determination, and hope in the face of adversity.
The 21-year-old’s journey has been anything but smooth.
Starting his studies with great enthusiasm, Muhammed faced numerous challenges, particularly in managing the demanding coursework and tight deadlines.
“I struggled at first, especially with assignments and tutorials,” he recalled.
“But I stayed determined, adapted, and kept believing in myself. I completed my LMV Certificate and am just one quarter away from finishing my second qualification, which feels like a huge achievement.”
Muhammed often pulled all-nighters, completing up to 18 units in just six months.
“It was exhausting, but my goal to make my parents proud kept me going,” he said.
His unwavering dedication paid off, and today, he is employed at Niranjans as a Service Technician, working towards his passion of becoming a mechanical engineer.
The Narere resident credits FNU for equipping him with the skills and confidence necessary to succeed.
“FNU provided me with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience I needed. It helped me grow both personally and professionally,” he explained.
His message to young people is simple but powerful: “Believe in yourself, no matter how tough things get. Hard work and dedication always pay off. Stay focused, stay humble, and never give up on your dreams — for yourself and for those who believe in you.”
Muhammed’s inspiring journey is proof that dreams can become reality when determination and confidence lead the way.
