For some, the sight of a plane is just a fleeting moment; for Akuila Tabuavou Junior Tamanisau, it was a calling. Now, he is actively turning that fascination into a future, training to become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer at the Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Engineering and Technical Vocational Education and Training (CETVET), Bonunaqwele campus.

Akuila, who hails from Nayavu, Wainibuka, Tailevu, found his career path solidified during a visit to the Nadi International Airport. Seeing the Fiji Airways aircraft up close, he realised his purpose: to be a crucial part of the team ensuring those magnificent machines fly safely.

His journey is anchored by the constant support of his mother. When he told her his ambitious plans, her simple yet heartfelt response was: “If this is what you truly want, give it all you’ve got.” This encouragement is the biggest motivation helping him navigate the rigorous programme’s challenges.

At FNU CETVET, Akuila is focused on mastering piston and Gas turbine engines, aircraft systems, and structural inspection; essential skills that are preparing him for a confident entry into the industry. After graduation, he aims to gain certification and start his career with a local airline, directly contributing to the safety and reliability of Fiji’s growing aviation sector.

Akuila’s Blueprint for Success: To any young person considering a technical programme at FNU CETVET, Akuila offers a clear message: “Believe in yourself and stay committed.”

“The journey isn’t easy, but with passion and discipline, you will make it.

Remember, FNU CETVET offers great opportunities, but it’s your dedication that will turn those opportunities into achievements.”
