The FNU Open Day at Nasinu Campus was a memorable occasion for Ratu Sailosi Nawerecaqa, who lives with hearing and speech impairments.

The Marist Champagnant student displayed great confidence and hope for his future as he explored the programmes offered by FNU’s National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC).

Originally from Nabutautau in Ba, Nawerecaqa shared his passion for woodwork and engineering.

I really liked the atmosphere at the Open Day,” he signed, smiling.

“I visited all the booths, and I found NTPC very encouraging to join their Centre.”

“I love working with wood and engineering. I want to build a better life for me and my family.”

He hopes to enrol in the Carpentry programme after college to improve his skills.

Another important part of his visit was seeing FNU’s Disability Centre at Nasinu Campus.

“I was very surprised to see that FNU has a disability centre. I consider myself fortunate. I’m glad I came to the Open Day. I learnt a lot,” Nawerecaqa said.

“When I entered the disability centre, the FNU team greeted me warmly. I felt very comfortable and at home.”

Nawerecaqa’s story reminds us that disabilities do not define a person’s dreams.
