Unit Name: Introduction to Veterinary Medicine (Farm, Companion and Aquatic Animals)

Description: History and scope of Veterinary Medicine. Concepts of animal diseases and diagnosis, differential diagnosis. General systemic states, hyperthermia, hypothermia, fever, shock and dehydration. Aetiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of diseases of cattle. pigs, sheep & goat and horses. Diseases of blood and blood forming organs, digestive system, cardiovascular system. metabolic disorders/production diseases and nutritional deficiencies. Emergency medicine and critical care.Clinical manifestations, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of viral, bacterial, mycotic and parasitic diseases of companion animals. Metabolic disorders- hypothyroidism and diabetes in dogs. Diseases of digestive system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, blood and blood forming organs in companion animals. Introduction to aquatic animals, Viral, Bacterial, Mycotic and Parasitic disease affecting aquatic animals, their diagnosis and treatment. Nutritional deficiency and toxic disease diagnosis and treatment. Miscellaneous non-infectious diseases associated with physico-chemical abnormalities of water. Neoplasia of teleosts, vaccines and vaccination.
