Unit Name: Tourism Planning

Description: This course will give the understanding the processes of tourism planning and development and their associated impacts. To know how to apply strategic principles to the marketing and management of environmentally sensitive destinations and attractions. Be able to critically evaluate and classify the positive and negative impacts of tourism development. Be able to critically assess the interrelations between the characteristics of a destination, types of development, types of tourists, and tourism impacts.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: a. Generate the framework for tourism planning (GPIA-1, GPIA-2, GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-6, GPIA-7) b. Analyse tourism planning techniques (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5) c. Evaluate community level tourism planning (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-6, GPIA-7, GPIA-8) d. Diagnose environmental and socioeconomics consideration (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-6, GPIA- 7, GPIA-8) e. Institutional elements and plan implementation (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-6, GPIA-7, GPIA-8)
