Unit Code: URP715

Unit Name: Transportation Planning

Description: This course is focused on transportation’s interrelationship with the urban environment, methodologies for planning multi-modal transportation systems, and developing feasible alternatives. Emphasis is placed on developing insight into the transportation phenomena and the planning process as well as solving specific problems of limited scope. The aims of this course are the students have (1) knowledge of the relationship and integration between transport and land use (SPIA4-01), (2) knowledge of the principles of transport planning and modelling (SPIA4-02), (3) knowledge of various transport modes and their operation (SPIA4-03), (4) capacity to critique plans and design proposals, according to sustainable transport planning principles, linking these with other forms of planning and urban change influences (SPIA4-04) and (5) capacity to produce transportation plans at a level demonstrating understanding of the main components of transport plan production and implementation (SPIA4-05).

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: a. Analyze the legal framework for transportation planning (GPIA-1, GPIA-3) b. Use research skill to identify the urban travel characteristic (GPIA-2, GPIA-9) c. Create the urban travel demand modelling (GPIA-2, GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-7) d. Analyze environmental consideration in the transportation planning process (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-6) e. Evaluate and choose the best method for transportation planning (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-6, GPIA-7) f. Design corridor planning, the transportation system in the recreational area and transit planning (GPIA-3, GPIA-4, GPIA-5, GPIA-6, GPIA-7)
