Unit Name: Site Planning and Design

Description: This course is students will review land inventory, analysis, and planning of sites and the infrastructure systems. Students will also examine the spatial organization of uses, parcelization, design of roadways, grading, utility systems, stormwater runoff, parking, traffic and off-site impacts, as well as landscaping. Lectures will cover analytical techniques and examples of good site-planning practice. The general aims of this course are the students have: (1) knowledge of the main types of plan-making processes and implementation techniques including strategic planning, statutory planning, urban design and place making together with the capacity to select appropriate processes and implementation methods according to the scale and circumstance of intervention (CPIA2-04), (2) understanding of key legal principles and practices in plan making and implementation (CPIA2-05), (3) nowledge of the main processes of governance relevant to planning and of the influence of politics upon these, and the related capacity to design and implement workable democratic participatory processes in association with communities and other stakeholders (CPIA2-06), (4) Capacity to gather qualitative and quantitative data relevant to the planning circumstances, even if incomplete, to analyse it and to communicate its relevance and any shortcomings of findings appropriately (CPIA2-08), (5) Capacity to prepare plans and urban designs to address and manage land use and development issues and opportunities (CPIA2-09), (6) Capacity to critique plans, planning tools, built environment proposals, and outcomes as necessary (CPIA2-11)
