Unit Name: Sustainable Development and Land Use Planning
Description: The purpose of this course is to explain the correlation between sustainable development and land use planning, the background and day to day activities, opportunities and constraints faced during the process of make land use plan. Specific methods in sustainable development and land use planning used to implement community plans will be presented and discussed. This course requires addressing a variety of different topics, including ecology, economics, financial implementation, history, social realities, organizational realities & structures, policies (including sustainability), and legislation considerations. This course will seek to familiarize students with how land use planning often involves lots of participants with different perspectives related to land use outcomes. Generally the aim of this course are: (1) students can produce plans of various types, selecting the techniques, approaches and tools appropriate to the task and situation, including the ability to subsequently implement plans in the particular circumstances of a place. Students can allocate land uses and manage the process of land use change and also undertake the preparation of plans to implement design concepts and establish the pattern and form of development (CPIA2), (2) students have of the main principles of sustainable development, ecological systems and key issues such as climate change (SPIA2-01), and (3) capacity to produce basic environmental plans at a level demonstrating understanding of broader principles and policy implementation (SPIA2-03).
