Unit Name: Professional Practice 1 in TVET Classrooms

Description: This course will introduce trainee teachers to different aspects of teaching which includes different methods of teaching and lesson planning, the TVET syllabus and lesson designing, classroom management and assessment techniques. The course also provides firsthand experience of teaching in a real classroom situation where trainees will be expected to translate knowledge into instructional discourse. This real learning experience will provide trainee teachers with the practical experience that will develop their confidence as an aspiring teacher. The course is in two parts: Part 1 is ten weeks of in-campus training where trainee teachers will have lectures, tutorial and workshop activities that will be assessed by the Lecturer and Tutor. The coursework weighting for the in campus training is 50%. Part 2 is eight weeks of school practical (Industrial Attachment) that will be home based where students will be assessed by the Assistant Teachers (AT) and Department Lecturers and Tutors. The weighting for the Industrial Attachment is 50%.

Prerequisite Sentence: A Trade Certificate and /or Diploma in a relevant content area in TVET or equivalent qualification.
