Unit Name: Principles of Policy Science, Design and Analysis

Description: As the key course of the Social Policy programme this unit provides the broad frame of reference, for the other courses and introduces students to the methods of policy design and analysis. The course first introduces the discourse in Policy Science as an area of academic studies and research that represents the intersection of the social sciences and the humanities and how this mutli base influences both the design of policy and its final analysis. The Unit examines the origins and the fundamental principles of Policy Science, the institutional context, and the role of evidence in and for policy formulation the design process, the historical and emerging issues that inform policy debate and action and the importance of policy analysis are taken up as key aspects of the policy specialist as s/he undertakes to assist public, private or other sectors in policy design.
