Unit Name: Contemporary Issues in Sports

Description: The purpose of this unit is to provide students with an opportunity to examine and appreciate the strengths, challenges, innovations, and reforms in sports education at both national and international levels. They will be empowered not only to adopt viable strategies and approaches in their professional practice but also to implement prescribed sports policies and programmes. In addition the unit will encourage a practical approach to exploring the effects of globalization, gender issues, discrimination,human rights, drugs, violence, commercialization of sports, cultural influences, climate change, controversial issues in sports sponsorship, health and safety and colonization of sports. Students will identify the challenges of today’s sports industry, learn to devise different strategies, and apply them to practice.
