Unit Name: Sheetmetal Practice

Description: The unit enables the student to gain skills in basic procedures and craftsmanship in sheet metal work. Upon the completion of this unit, the student will be able to inspect, prepare and operate sheet metal machines, mark out, cut, drill and join a variety of common materials and alloys, and produce detailed information of various simple shapes in sheet metal. Generally provides the depth knowledge about various hand tools as well as sheet metal machines required to use safely by workshop standard procedures and effectively to carry out any sheet metal associated fabricated works.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Relate the knowledge and use the sheet metal machines and all hand tools safely according to the operator’s manual. 2. Relate the knowledge and describe and carry out various jointing methods,-self-secured joints and other jointing methods including soft soldering, safe edges and beadings on sheet metal articles/projects. 3. Relate the knowledge and demonstrate skills for basic procedures and craftsmanship in sheet metal work. 4. Explain and produce detailed information on various simple shapes in sheet metal, cuts, forms and prepares for fixing, by current regulations/byelaws and material manufacturers\' instructions. 5. Relate and utilize guidance and apply the knowledge to fabricate a given task successfully as per all given specifications.
