Unit Name: Applied Materials

Description: The unit provides the general knowledge about various materials used in the trade of Plumbing and Sheetmetal. It focuses on the best selection of materials as per respective usages and its characteristics with exposed conditions or with contact with other materials. The right choice of materials is not only economical but also delivers best results and customer satisfactions.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe through inspection of materials and recognize and produces a list of basic defects and their possible causes. 2. Describe on the characteristics of common materials and identify the physical properties related to their use, including the method of site testing. 3. Identify the Constituents of the main alloys used in the manufacture of Plumbing materials. 4. Identify the Advantages of various materials in different categories including Ferrous, Non-ferrous, Plastics etc., for their relevant applications for the general trade of Plumbing and sheet metal, including Roof Works. 5. Select materials, combinations of materials for specific tasks and states reasons for selections.
