Unit Code: PMM452

Unit Name: Electro Hydraulics & Pneumatics

Description: This course explains the fundamental concepts of fluid power and electro-fluid power systems. Covers the principles of fluid power, calculations of physical properties of fluids and their ability to do work. Introduces the various fluid power components, symbols, and circuits. Introduces troubleshooting of fluid power components and systems with an emphasis on safety. Addresses fluids, filters, reservoirs, piping, pumps, actuators, accumulators, control valves, and combination circuits. This course explains automatic control systems and electrical control concepts. It covers the principles of logic elements and functions and assembly of logic circuits. Maintenance techniques and troubleshooting components and systems will be stressed.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Understand the classification of pneumatic components. Understand the construction, function and operation of control systems. 2. Apply knowledge and understanding for the maintenance of fluid power systems requirements for safe working conditions during overhaul and repair. 3. Take responsibility for simple hydraulic installation, recording faults and diagnosing possible causes together with possible remedies. 4. Demonstrate a variety of electro-hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and test their operation.
