Unit Code: PMM433

Unit Name: Manufacturing Processes

Description: The aim of this unit is to enable the student to develop the intermediate knowledge and skills of Manufacturing Processes. The course is designed to provide a basic understanding of traditional methods of materials processing used in product manufacturing. Through lectures, demonstrations, and firsthand laboratory exposure, the student is given the theory and applications of each process. The following are covered: casting, extruding, forging, moulding, forming, heat treating, joining, and an introduction to machining methods, both conventional and numerically controlled. Fundamentals of manufacturing processes (metal forming, forging, metal cutting, welding, joining, and casting); selection of metals, plastics and other materials relative to the design and choice of manufacturing processes

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Demonstrate the classification of various manufacturing process. 2. Illustrate basics of primary and secondary manufacturing process. 3. Relate knowledge on forming and shaping of plastics. 4. Apply knowledge gain on hot and cold working process.
