Unit Code: PHY804

Unit Name: Physics of Photovoltaic Devices, Technology and System

Description: This course is designed to educate students in the physics of photovoltaic devices and applications of photovoltaic technology. It focuses on physical principles, technology, and design of efficient semiconductor photovoltaics. Course goais equip students with the concepts and analytical skills to understand efficiency limitations, to zssess the viability of various solar and thermophotovoltaic technologies, and to introduce the physics required for understanding photovoltaic energy conversion. The course will focus on three primary aspects of photovoltaic energy conversion, (i) the transfer and conversion of solar (i.e. thermal) radiation to electronic energy, (ii) the theory and design of the semiconductor photovoltaic cell and (iii) photovaltaic systems and applications.
