Unit Name: Renewable and Sustainable Energy

Description: This course provides a broad exposure to energy issues, with an emphasis on renewable and sustainable energy. Renewable energy is the generation of power in useful forms from natural sources such as the sun (solar energy), wind (air currents), water (hydro, waves, currents etc.), biological (biomass) and the earth itself (geothermal). This is an inexhaustible supply and technologies are evolving to make use of these processes for conversion to useable energy.This course emphasis on energy science and technology, energy generation, transmission, distribution, renewable and their potential for Fiji, energy storage, impact of fossil fuels and renewable on climate change which gives students the skills and knowledge to tackle society?s pressing energy problems.
