Unit Name: Physiotherapy in Population Health

Description: This practical and interactive course is designed to strengthen the leadership effectiveness of physiotherapists. The course begins by studying the core management functions of involved with facilitating meetings, balancing workload and project management and then transitions into an exploration of the essential elements of leadership in rehabilitation including emotional intelligence, practical leadership skills, and leadership assessment. Personal and practical leadership skill development is enhanced and reinforced through an in person week long intensive leadership development session. Leadership Development Groups (LDGs), in place throughout the course, will further optimize learner leadership effectiveness through tutorials, experiential exercises, self-reflection, group discussions and feedback. This course is suitable for physiotherapists in leadership positions and clinical roles.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe key features of populations in time and its demographic parameters over time. 2. Discuss population health model and differentiate its components. 3. Demonstrate understanding and application of key elements of population health. 4. Apply key elements of population health to a population health issue and develop an intervention plan. 5. Critically Appraise a Population Health Intervention Plan. 6. Select, calculate, compare, and interpret basic population health measures and measures of association for comparing population health measures.
