Unit Name: Systematic Literature Review and Synthesis

Description: This course is designed to give students an opportunity to learn and conduct a systematic review on clinical topic in their area of practice/interest. The approach is focused on practical learning experience, in which students are able to proceed in a step by step approach to completing a high quality systematic review by (i)defining a clinical question, (ii) acquiring comprehensive and relevant literature on clinical question, (iii) critically appraising the available evidence, (iv) synthesizing the findings from the appraisal in an applicable format and (v) completing a draft manuscript for publication. While steps (i) to (iii) will be done in a group, steps (iv) and (v) will be done individually. Assistance will be provided to guide students through these processes though majority of the work will be done through hands-on, self directed and practical learning activities.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Identify a clinical question in the area of practice/interest. 2. Develop a systematic review protocol. 3. Acquire and critically appraise scientific evidence in the area of practice/interest. 4. Synthesize and report evidence from systematic review. 5. Develop an article from systematic review report.
