Unit Name: Physiotherapy Practicum I

Description: This unit offers learners the opportunity to undertake tasks that focus on basic physiotherapy assessment of patients. They will also undertake basic rehabilitation such as gait training, basic forms of exercises, mobilization and transfers of patients and appropriate documentation. Clinical Placements include Colonial War Memorial Hospital and National Rehabilitation Hospital Tamavua. These placements will consist of three clinical blocks: Musculoskeletal, Cardiorespiratory and Neurology Clinical Education.  Note: The students will have rotations of all 3 Clinical Blocks.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate basic clinical assessment under supervision. 2. Demonstrate progressive competency in assessment and clinical practice. 3. Demonstrate competency in clinical skill with high level of self and client/patient safety. 4. Demonstrate appropriate clinical reasoning in the planning and management of patients/clients. 5. Demonstrate appropriate documentation skills. 6. Demonstrate professional responsibility by timely and accurate completion of all clinical tasks. 7. Demonstrate appropriate interactions with clients and other health professionals.
