Unit Name: Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Description: This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to comprehensively assess and manage individuals with neuromusculoskeletal problems. Students will learn how to design, implement and evaluate rehabilitation programmes tailored to the needs of individual patients/clients. The overall philosophy is to encourage an analytical, questioning attitude, which in turn will lead to an increase in evidence- based practice together with innovation in clinical practice. The course aims to broaden the students’ knowledge base in the sciences relevant to the practice of neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Discuss the general principles and concepts of neurodynamics 2. Demonstrate knowledge of normal and abnormal structure and function of the neuromusculoskeletal system. 3. Discuss common neuromusculoskeletal pathologies. 4. Utilse skills of examination and assessment in interpreting patients neuromusculoskeletal problems, incorporating a patient centred biopsychosocial approach and drawing on reflective practice and research evidence 5. Manage patients with acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal problems in a simulated setting. 6. Demonstrate reflective learning and clinical reasoning in the examination and treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. 7. Demonstrate professional practice in all areas of neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy treatment and management.
