Unit Name: Evaluation of an NCD Program or NCD Project

Description: The purpose of this course is to equip students with knowledge of the fundamentals of evaluation of health programmes. Students will be given an opportunity to learn about key differences between monitoring and evaluation. They will learn the different components within the Project implementation cycle. Students are given an opportunity to critically think around designs and their suitability in relation to the intended evaluation choice. This will include the log frame approach and how to put put these principles into practical applicability through examples. The first 7 weeks will be dedicated to theoretical teaching and the next remaining 7 teaching weeks will be used by students to carry out evaluation of their proposed study site as their final submission for their mini thesis. Expected outcome: Students are expected to learn how to evaluate an existing ongoing NCD program or NCD Project using the necessary tools and knowledge obtained from the course. In addition, the outcomes of these evaluations can be used by the organisation concerned to further improve and strengthen existing policies and strategies. The other beneficial impact this course will have is that students who are doing part-time and working can also utilize these skills to help their individual organizations in terms of improving key performance indicators and their internal monitoring processes.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the key concepts & principles of monitoring and evaluation 2. Examine and synthesize the knowledge of the log frame approach 3. Synthesize the knowledge of fundamentals and different types of evaluation 4. Design an evaluation of and critically analyze a NCD project or NCD program 5. Execute, implement, write up and present the evaluation of an NCD program or project
