Unit Name: Fire Safety Measures and Risk Management

Description: This course is designed as an introductory foundation to the areas of Occupational Health and Safety management. The course gives a broad-based overview of Fire Safety Management, hitting some of the key factors, institutions and processes. The subject of Occupational OHS Management systems is introduced, and some of the fundamental issues are explored. An important requirement of this Unit is the need for students to have exposure to workplace situations in the form of Industrial visits and tour to appreciate further the practical issues discussed in the Unit.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Determine and examine the different classes of fire which are central to Fire Prevention and control. 2. Determine and interpret the types, storage and use of fire extinguishers. 3. Determine and evaluate the effects of fire and principles of fire extinguishment. 4. Draw and apply fire plan and fire evacuation procedures. 5. Determine associated fire fighting equipment.
