Unit Name: Acute Nursing and Management

Description: The course is clinically designed and oriented to allow the student to apply theories of acute and advanced nursing cares as well as the nursing responses in medical, surgical emergencies and trauma. A rotation of 10 weeks in clinical practice is required in the following special general nursing areas, Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Operating Theatre, Burns, Accidents & Emergency room and two weeks of Nursing Ward management. Students, whilst on clinical rotation are expected to complete the minimum required hours and also to complete competencies and all assessments relevant to the level of nursing practice expected.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate the ability to assess and prioritize emergency cases. 2. Demonstrate the ability to prepare and manage clients (unconscious, tracheostomy, ETT ) in the intensive care area. 3. Demonstrate the ability to prepare and manage client in CCU. 4. Demonstrate the ability to prepare and manage clients in Burns. 5. Demonstrate skills in managing clients in the operating room setting. 6. Apply the knowledge and skills of management in the clinical setting.
