Unit Name: Foundational Concepts of Community Health Nursing

Description: Action for Health covers theories and models of health and health care in community. The concepts and components of Primary Health Care is studied and the course critically analyses the principles of Primary Health Care in the provision of Health care services. The course provides opportunity to look at concepts relating to disease occurrence trends from a global to local perspective and critically studying the possible contributing factors to disease causation. The course concludes with providing you with theoretical foundation of essentials in public health education.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Discuss the interdependent relationship man has with environment to sustain life. 2. Demonstrate knowledge embedded in theories to build a concept of community and health. 3. Discuss fundamental concepts of Community Health Nursing. 4. Discuss using relevant available literature the theoretical keystones to Community Health Nursing. 5. Discuss current global and National trends of disease occurrence and causality. 6. Discuss WHO declarations and Charters to describe principles, components and programmes of Primary Health Care. 7. Apply Primary Health Care (PHC) concepts, to discuss Community Health Nursing (CHN) in Fiji. 8. Discuss concepts relating to Community Health education. 9. Distinguish PHC approach in action in the delivery of Health Care services in Fiji.
