Unit Name: Psychosocial Aspects of Nursing
Description: The course introduces the student to contemporary concepts of lifespan developmental psychology or the study of how and why people change overtime as well as how and why they remain the same from the conception stage through the aging process and their influences on health and nursing. The course is presented with an interdisciplinary perspectives focusing on the cognitive, psychosocial, psychosexual, moral, emotional and sociocultural aspects of human development. The course also addresses the social environment and its impact on human development. Social theorists discuss the structure of society and addressing issues that positively supports human development as well as issues that deter human development. The impact of ethnicity, gender inequality, cultural factors, politics and the issue of classing people is addressed. The emphasis is placed on the concepts of culture, belief systems, health and caring, and how these concepts affect the nursing care delivery system.
