Unit Name: Nursing Science II
Description: This subject encourages the student to develop knowledge of the interrelationship between the various organ systems and the effects on them of disease. The development of disease is an intricate and involved relationship between normal physiology and altered functioning. Concepts from microbiology, physiology and pharmacology are explored to enable the student to understand pathological processes. Students will be taught the science of diseases and their nature, causes and effects.
Learning Target Outcomes: At the completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Describe pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, individual variation, genetic factors, and drug interaction. 2. Apply the principles of drug therapy across the lifespan 3. Describe the major groups of microorganisms 4. Discuss the pathology concepts of disease – Inflammatory Reaction & Wound Healing 5. Discuss the pathology concepts of disease- Shock & Ischemia 6. Discuss the pathology concepts of disease-Effects of stress 7. Discuss the pathology concepts of disease Neoplastic Diseases 8. Describe the core tenets of perioperative nursing practice 9. Demonstrate skills in nursing procedures
