Unit Name: Human Development and Health
Description: This course is designed to explore the impact of biopsychosocial growth and development principles from conception through death. The emphasis is on analyzing the impact of these principles on health. The EN\'s role in applying this knowledge throughout the life span is explored through community observations and interview.
Learning Target Outcomes: At the completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Discuss the interdependency of contextual, physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and cultural aspects of development. 2. Apply these psycho-social factors in planning and implementation of care for clients of all age groups 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the social, cultural, and political dimensions of health and illness and of health care delivery 4. Describe the manner in which health is socially constructed 5. Describe the underlying processes and the sequence of human development (psychological, emotional, moral, and sociocultural). 6. Apply developmental charts to determine normal growth and development for ages 0-5 years. 7. Apply the concepts of lifespan development and social construction of health to the care of clients across the lifespan 8. Demonstrate skills in assessing nursing competencies.
