Unit Name: Health Assessment

Description: This course will help the students to develop and utilize physical assessment and history taking skills necessary to care for the biophysical needs of patients. The course focuses on the communication techniques and critical thinking skills necessary to elicit a health history. Physical assessment skills will be developed to determine normal and abnormal findings of various body systems, including a general survey assessment.

Learning Target Outcomes: At the completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Obtain a complete health history for client/client system using a predesignated format. 2. Apply safety concepts to health assessments 3. Utilize the skills of physical assessment to assess the skin, & HEENT & Nervous System 4. Apply the skills of physical assessment to assess the thorax and lungs 5. Apply the skills of physical assessment to assess the heart. 6. Apply the skills of physical assessment to assess the abdomen 7. Apply the skills of physical assessment to assess the musculoskeletal system 8. Apply the skills of physical assessment to assess the neurologic system 9. Conduct a complete health history and physical assessment of a patient to include documentation 10. Demonstrate skills in assessing nursing competencies
