Unit Name: Evidence Based Midwifery Practise

Description: This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge of the research process, systematic reviews and guidelines for synthesizing evidence based practice. It will also provide guidance of developing skills in critical appraisal of research studies, identifying the level of research evidence available for midwives to practice and implementing Evidence Based Practice together with management principles in a health care setting.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Critique appropriate contemporary research literature on Midwifery practice. 2. Analyse systematic reviews and interpret the impact of Evidence Based Practice on the provision of Midwifery care. 3. Propose an evidence based practice audit on selected topics of interest that is relevant to Fiji and the Region. 4. Develop a working knowledge of clinical governance to influence the organization of the Health care systems on the provision of Midwifery care. 5. Develop a professional portfolio and competency guidelines and tools after evaluating Midwifery practices in Labour Ward. 6. Develop a professional portfolio and competency guidelines and tools after evaluating Midwifery practices in antenatal period. 7. Develop a professional portfolio and competency guidelines and tools after evaluating Midwifery practices in the Maternity Intensive Care Unit.
