Unit Name: Policy Development for Nursing

Description: This course is designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge to students about policy processes which will lead to change. They will get to understand that nurse’s work influences policy that impact quality of life and universal access to care. It will help them apply their knowledge in policy process and develop advocacy plans that would promote positive changes or actions especially at a time of rapid change in the health care arena. There is clear need of concise policies within the organizations to promote population health and health care.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Demonstrate understanding of selected nursing policies using the policy process to strengthen the nursing practice. 2. Evaluate the policy processes that are carried out for policy formulation in the nursing profession 3. Review factors which influence the formulation of policies which govern nursing practice. 4. Formulate a new nursing policy draft using the policy formulation process. 5. Utilize the general guidelines for changing nursing policies and using tactics to facilitate change in the workplace.
