Unit Code: MUS702

Unit Name: Celebrating Music

Description: This unit contains two components: Music Festival and Fijian Fusion. Music Festival: Provides training in event management with hands-on experience in organising a school/community music festival, culminating in a major performance by a number of schools/community music organisations. With guidance from lecturers, 3rd year music specialists will work with local schools and community organisations to develop and rehearse both choral and instrumental ensemble works for the festival. At the conclusion of the unit, students will have acquired the ability and confidence to conceptualise, market, manage, and successfully run a community music festival. Fijian Fusion (Research Project): As part of the school/community music festival, a study and culminating essay concerning an area of fusion music in Fiji will be required. This research shall be directly related to the musical compositions/arrangements prepared by the students for the music festival, thus integrating an important area of local music styles into the music festival.
