Unit Name: The Multicultural Music of the Fiji Islands

Description: The course has four components. Part 1 is the continuation of grade 4 with grade 5 being the final grade at the level. Part two is a study of the Evolution of music in Fiji where the development of music in Fiji will be discussed in detail culminating with a seminar presentation and a major performance at the end of the semester. Trainees will take a field trip to relevant stakeholders to enhance their knowledge in this component of the unit. Part 3 is Classroom Music where guitar and harmonium are introduced as classroom instruments for the fisrt time. Part 4 is Instrumental Tuition where students continue to study their major instrument from the Instruments of the Orchestra. Trainees will be expected to show case skills acquired from Instrumental Tuition in Brass as part of performance at the end of the semester. Trainees will be encouraged to blend in all their performances in a form of a major concert at the end of the semester. All trainees must be seen to be participating in a performance ensemble after hours and not less than three hours from the trainees indirect contact hours must be spent on this.
