Unit Name: Foundation of Music Education & Choral Music Education

Description: The unit has 4 components. The first is Foundations of Music Education where History, Social and Philisophical Foundations of Music Education are briefly discusssed. In addition,music philosophers and important music educators and their work will be highlighted The second component is Choral Music Education where trainees are expected to train and conduct their small ensemble (choir) at the end of the semester. Music Theory which is the third component continues to be taught in this semester up to grade 3. Finally, basic music technology skills will be taught for the first time in a face to face mode. Trainees will be expected to show case a performance of simple computer notated music at the end of this unit. In addition, all music trainees are expected to be part of the brass ensemble as part of their after hours ensemble performance and three hours of the trainees indirect contact hours will be used for this.
