Unit Name: The Rudiments of Music

Description: The course has four components. These include: Part 1 - Rudiments of Music - Grade 1 and Grade 2. Part 2 is Aural Perception which includes discussing activities for listening skills. Part 3 is Classroom Instruments where ukulele, voice and recorders are introduced as classroom instruments. Part 4 is Instrumental Tuition - Introduction to the Instrument of the Orchestra where students are required to choose as their major instrument an instrument from the Instruments of the Orchestra. Trainees will be required to showcase basic skills acquired as determined by the instrumental tutor.The course will cover basic elements of music in the above mentioned areas, which will be taken concurrently throughout the semester. All trainees must be seen to be participating in a performance ensemble after hours and not less than three hours from the trainees indirect contact hours must be spent on this.
