Unit Name: Music Major 1

Description: This course contains two components: Individual Study A and Ensemble Study A. Individual Study A: Trains students on a suitable instrument/voice to develop basic playing/singing techniques, performance practice, and improvisation skills. This component will also cover instrument care & maintenance with a focus on safe mobility and storage. The required level of instrument/vocal performance is equal to Grade 1 & 2 AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) or similar. Ensemble Study A: Trains students to perform together as a choir/group. Methods of listening and collaborating form the main structure of the component along with an introduction to ensemble/choir leadership/conducting.

Prerequisite: N/A

Prerequisite Sentence: The minimum entry requirement for fresh school leavers to Certificate IV is successful completion of studies up to Fiji?s Sixth Form (12 years of continuous progression), with 50% in English or equivalent. Applicants may also be admitted to Certificate IV in programmes who may not meet the 12 years of continuous progression requirement, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programmes at these levels on the basis of maturity, work experience, or prior learning.
