Unit Name: Music Technology 1

Description: Music Technology 1 introduces students to valuable technological resources to increase music productivity and develop techniques for self-promotion via multimedia, recording and music portfolios. This course contains three components: Introduction to Sound and Multimedia, Computer Music Notation, and Recording for Artists. Introduction to Sound and Multimedia: Fundamentals of sound-waves, harmonics, and acoustics with focus on software installation, multimedia files, audio formats, and file compression. Computer Music Notation: Introduction to Sibelius music notation software, basic editing techniques, and sheet music printing. Recording for Artists: Introduction to Logic Pro sequencing software, basic editing techniques, hardware setup, and recording fundamentals.

Prerequisite: N/A

Prerequisite Sentence: The minimum entry requirement for fresh school leavers to Certificate IV is successful completion of studies up to Fiji?s Sixth Form (12 years of continuous progression), with 50% in English or equivalent. Applicants may also be admitted to Certificate IV in programmes who may not meet the 12 years of continuous progression requirement, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programmes at these levels on the basis of maturity, work experience, or prior learning.
