Unit Name: Genres of Music 1

Description: This course contains 2 components: Western Music and Music Periods. Western Music: Traces the development of western music and style fundamental to modern music theory and the western notation system. This Unit identifies the prime ingredients of modern western music and theory. Music Periods: Investigates the changing forms of music of two millennium, with a focus on the rennaissance/baroque, classical, and romantic periods. An introduction to music theatre, modern Pop, and film music completes the broad introduction to music genres.

Prerequisite: N/A

Prerequisite Sentence: he minimum entry requirement for fresh school leavers to Certificate IV is successful completion of studies up to Fiji?s Sixth Form (12 years of continuous progression), with 50% in English or equivalent. Applicants may also be admitted to Certificate IV in programmes who may not meet the 12 years of continuous progression requirement, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programmes at these levels on the basis of maturity, work experience, or prior learning.
