Unit Code: MTH602

Unit Name: Statistical Mathematics

Description: This unit provides opportunities for students to deal with situations involving probability, descriptive and inferential statistics, regression analysis and other basic mathematical tools used in business and scientific environments, to interpret results rationally.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon completing this course the student will be able to: 1. Compare the two general bodies of methods that together constitute the subject called statistics: descriptive and inferential statistics and evaluate the usage of graphical descriptive methods to summarize and describe sets of data. 2. Design the usage of numerical descriptive measures to summarize and describe sets of data and evaluate the data collection and sampling process. 3. Evaluate the data collection and sampling process and appraise the basic concepts behind the rules and techniques of probability. 4. Evaluate the importance of normal distribution and its practical usage and carry out confidence interval tests and hypothesis testing. 5. Evaluate the composition of a time series and simple forecasting.
