Unit Name: Specialist Imaging
Description: This course explores advanced imaging modalities such as MRI, Ultrasound, Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine, Hybrid modalities, and ESWL. Students will assess image quality, justify imaging protocols, and gain beginner-level competence in performing specified examinations. Topics include safety regulations and a multimodality approach to diagnosing trauma and pathology. Assessments include written tests and practical evaluations to ensure proficiency.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Explain the basic physics and principles of advanced imaging modalities such as MRI, Ultrasound, Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine, Hybrid modalities, and ESWL. 2. Assess image quality and implement quality control in Ultrasound and MRI. 3. Discuss regulatory and safety issues related to Ultrasound and MRI. 4. Justify imaging protocols and techniques in CNS MRI and specific Ultrasound exams including abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics, gynaecology and thyroid. 5. Demonstrate beginner-level competence in performing and interpreting specified Ultrasound and MRI examinations. 6. Apply a multimodality approach to diagnose trauma and pathology
