Unit Name: Pattern Recognition and Image

Description: This course builds on the integration of concepts and knowledge of anatomy, pathology and imaging procedures and principles. The course aims to develop student skills in developing reports and providing informed opinions by teaching the theory and skills of image evaluation, critical image analysis and spot diagnosis in Radiology using a multimodality approach. Interpretation will be correlated with relevant clinical history and informed by evidence based practice.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Recognize major anatomical structures on a range of diagnostic medical images. 2. Recognize diagnostic limitations of different imaging modalities. 3. Outline the essential criteria for evaluation and assessment of technical quality and anatomical details of diagnostic medical images. 4. Develop a search pattern for specific structures to interpret diagnostic medical images. 5. Recognize the patterns and appearances of the common types of abnormalities and pathologies of each organ system. 6. Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide informed opinion on radio diagnosis by using rational and technical acumen and rigorous argument.
