Unit Name: Medical Imaging Methods II

Description: This course introduces special contrast medical imaging procedures of the upper and lower gastrointestinal system, biliary and urinary systems. Students will also learn mammography and myelography and information for dealing with specific imaging situations such as trauma, mobile radiography, operation theatre radiography and special consideration (pediatric, geriatric and special needs) patient populations. The course will complement the clinical experience of students enabling them to conduct imaging procedures considering gross and cross-sectional radiographic anatomy, radiation protection and safe practice

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Develop skills in assessing radiological request form for justification and sequence of projections. 2. Identify imaging procedures to suit patients’ conditions and clinical environment. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of radiation and occupational health and safety principles in the various practical aspects of trauma, advanced imaging, special consideration and contrast studies. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of contrast media reactions and the appropriate actions to be taken in the event of contrast media hypersensitivity. 5. Discuss imaging techniques, procedures and protocols of trauma, advanced imaging, special consideration, contrast and breast imaging. 6. Develop an understanding of interpersonal and inter-professional communication skills in medical imaging practice. 7. Develop skills in evaluating images for diagnostic quality in trauma, advanced imaging, special consideration contrast and breast imaging. 8. Demonstrate an understanding of code of conduct and professional code of practice in the various aspects of the profession.
