Unit Name: Professional Practice I

Description: This course is the first of 3 part series of clinical courses in the program in which the students will work under supervision to develop technical skills and procedural knowledge. It is an introduction to the clinical radiographic experience focusing on the application and evaluation of medical imaging in the clinical setting. The learning experience will help students to acquire expertise and competence in performing a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures using various equipment by integrating anatomy, physiology, patient care and critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Utilize medical imaging terminologies in communication and practice. 2. Assess the radiological request form for justification and sequence of projections. 3. Demonstrate competency in performing routine clinical examinations under supervision. 4. Modify imaging procedures to suit patients’ conditions and clinical environment. 5. Apply radiation and occupational health and safety principles in the various practical aspects of general imaging. 6. Demonstrate interpersonal and inter-professional communication skills in medical imaging practice. 7. Evaluate medical images for diagnostic quality. 8. Apply code of conduct and professional code of practice in the various aspects of the profession
